Recent events have many women agitated, angry, and unsettled. I am one of those women. The gross ignorance and insensitivity that has been revealed through the nomination process has ignited fires in women to demand that they be heard, seen, and granted respect and equality. It is time for us to transform the shame and guilt that society has forced upon us into empowerment. The time for revolution is upon us.
A lot has been percolating in my brain this week surrounding these topics, and last evening I looked out my window and spotted a FLOCK of Flickers and 4 Nuthatches flitting about our yard.
I knew that they were messengers for me.
So, here’s the medicine that Flickers and Nuthatches bring:
Flicker:
Flicker demonstrates a new rhythm and cycle of growth. She shows the importance of healing love and the power of forgiveness. Insights and intuitions are activated and perceptions are changing. She teaches us how to connect with the earth and how to ground ourselves in nature with a vibrant vitality. Flicker aids in our ability to find deeper meanings and hidden qualities of patterns and coincidences. She teaches balance and harmony in the spiritual and mental realms. Flicker shows tenacity, patience and straightforward actions to accomplish endeavors at this time.
Flicker energy reminds us that traditional ways of life are not the only path to take. In fact, sometimes the unconventional approach is necessary. If this is your animal, the sense of balance despite of being unconventional can manifest in your way of life. In life you encounter different risks and struggles but with the flicker energy, there are no barriers in going through all these troubles. You possess the ability to surpass them and be victorious in your own ways. The person with flicker energy do not just go with the flow they can be found modifying their ways of attaining their goals but even done differently, their achievements are undeniably same with others. They do not do things deliberately but with calmness and preciseness. They are often tagged as mediator because of the trait of being moderate and mild in ways but creativity is also in the menu list of their ability thus an array of methods to achieve things.
Just like other woodpeckers, flickers are also good at communication. They do it like a sounding music as they drum and pick against a tree. At often times, they do not nest on the hole of trees they bore. Instead the flicker put their nests in unconventional places. The kindness of this bird is that they could fix and use old nests. They could also make new ones and let other birds utilize their nests after theirs.
Flickers also symbolize growth or advancement. Believers of flicker totem are gifted with intuition, ability for deepened understanding of being and seen in unconventional careers. Their changing perception and unconventional ways of life brings them to success if gift of flicker is appreciated well.
The flicker shows up as a spirit guide when…
You took the courage to live unconventionally but are still attaining your goals.
It is time not to assume but to take everything into consideration.
You should exhibit great independence and unwavering wisdom.
Experiences balance despite of disregarding traditional ways of life.
There is no place to put ego first.
Call on flicker as a spirit guide when…
You wish to develop long term unconventional relationships.
Problems on communication either in communicating or listening arises.
Ways to nourish partnerships or relationship becomes a problem.
Experiencing imbalance over sort of things.
Wanting to have ability to love and forgive.
The bright red markings of flickers are associated with fire, and in the Native American legends of northern California and Oregon, Flicker sometimes features as a medicine character with powers over fire. The Flicker reminds me of the transformative power of Kali, who will consume the old world with fire to create a new reality.
Nuthatch:
Nuthatch’s Wisdom Includes the courage of the one in the face of the masses, the ability to view things reversely, the ability to move ideas from thought to practice, and a connection to woodpecker. (See Flicker wisdom above).
Those who have Nuthatch’s power usually have courage to face the masses regardless of what concerns them. They are very courageous and this enables them to get what they want in life. They are also good leaders. Good leaders have the courage to face a group of people and address them on the issues at hand. We need courage to work with other people because if we are not courageous enough some people can demoralize us and leave us very heart broken and vulnerable.
The nuthatch scales trees upside down, digging for bugs beneath the bark. Those with Nuthatch power also tend to view things in a reversed manner. By changing their perspective, individuals can take a new view on the situation and find a different approach. Nuthatch shows how to move in many directions in search for spiritual and mental "food", sometimes head first is needed but rest assured, Nuthatch will also show how to hang on with amazing agility. Nuthatch is also a bird of ingenuity.
They have ability to put their thoughts into action. Such people usually have a dream that they work hard to realize rather than sitting down and letting things happen. They make it happen by exercising their thoughts. A dream is achieved by action not by just thinking. When we have a good idea but we never try to practice it then it will just remain as an idea to us. Someone else who is realistic enough can even steal your idea and practice it if you cannot.
Nuthatch shows up as a spirit guide when...
You need courage to face to face a crowd.
You need music to provide strength.
You have some fear.
You need to be very active.
To need to come to reality to achieve your dreams.
Call on Nuthatch as a spirit guide when...
You need to see things in another way round.
You need to be strong.
You need group recognition.
You need music to sooth your life.
You feel discouraged.
The wisdom of these birds is calling to me today. Last night, I lay in bed mulling over an approach for a new manuscript that might help women to transcend the social stigmas that have been imposed upon them and to engage in a transfiguration from guilt and shame to total empowerment. I believe the revolution has begun. Now we must see it through.
